National Adoption Month

As you all know, November is National Adoption Month.  Please support a family going through the process regardless of where they are at.  Pray for them, and if you can help in some small way please do.  I will be presenting an adoption from my own family around my birthday, but in my next post I will be celebrating another family's adoption process.

Update and a special announcement

I have been so crazy busy the last 7 weeks.  I have been in school for two different programs, and I still pulling good grades.  I have also had time to see a really good friend of mine from elementary school who I had not seen in months.  I am also about to have a new baby cousin for which I am very excited about.  Hopefully soon I will have a full time job with a family I currently sit for two to three times a week.

Rain?

It has been so long since we have had rain in my area of Texas.  I wish we could get more.  We so desperately need it.  I pray that we are able to get more to bring us out of the drought that we are in.  Please pray for rain.  This will help us beat the fires that are still in the area.

Remembering 9/11

I can not believe that it has been ten years since the tragedy of 9/11.  On that day, my world and that of all Americans came to stand still.  Shock, confusion, anger, and grief surrounded us.  In some ways, it is still here and alive today.  Let me take you back to where I was when it happened.

Ten years ago, I was 16 year old junior in high school, and in the band.  When it happened, no one came down to the football field to tell us what had happened.  There are two schools that sit next to the field and the high school was not far away either.  When we got back into the band hall, I sensed something was not right.  I kept saying something was not right.  When I found out, I was shocked.  I spent all day at school watching the footage, nothing else was learned in school that day.  Like most children of Military personnel, I knew immediately what that would mean to us.  I knew the possibility of my father being activated was a very real possibility.  At the time, I was afraid that I would be called out of class to say goodbye to him before he left.  I was very lucky compared to others in that though my father was activated, he was within an hour to hour an half away from me.  I also had loved one around the DC area, and I worried for their safety.

Now ten years later, I am thankful for each day I have with my family, and that I am free.  Thank you to all the people who work as police men, firemen, and the military.  Without you all, we would not be safe.

As a way for me to remember that fateful day, the children's department at church discussed it with the children.  Our biggest mission was teach to forgive, but not forget what happened. We had them sign thank you cards for a local police department and fire department.  Later in the afternoon, the children's pastor and I delivered the thank you notes and baked goods to the police and fire departments as a way of saying thank you for keeping us safe.

Retirement for an aunt of mine

It amazes me how time flies.  One of my aunts have retired from her job.  She has been a teacher, assistant principal, and principal for 34 years.  Most of which was done in one school district. I am so thankful that I have a great relationship with her.  Congrats Aunt Elaine on retirement!!!!

Memorial Day Weekend

My weekend was crazy busy, but totally awesome too.  Friday night I was able to see a good friend of mine and her baby, and meet her husband who just got back not too long ago from deployment.  It was an honor to meet him.  Then Saturday morning I went to my first volunteer shift at a hospital near where I live.  It was wonderful.  Once that was done, I went over to see family friends and then to the Memorial Day weekend Rodeo.  Sunday brought me the chance to fellowship with two church families.  Monday brought me the chance to sleep in, relax, and then to say goodbye to another close family friend who past away last week.

I praise God daily for all the blessings I have in this world.  I pray that you do as well.  Thank you God for the wonderful men and women who serve their country so that we are able to have the freedoms that we have today, and thank you Lord for all the families who deal with having these loved ones away on deployment.  These soldiers and their families give a lot for this country and it is an honor to know some of these people.

I can not believe how time flies.  Today is one of my friends' birthdays.  Liz, thank you for being a great friend.  I pray that this is an awesome day for you.  Love that precious baby of yours.
